The Activity Coefficients of Amino Acids and Peptides in Aqueous Solutions Containing Guanidinium Chloride
نویسندگان
چکیده
Six systems of the type amino acidor peptide-guanidinium chloride-water have been investigated over wide solute molality ranges using vapor pressure osmometry. The amino acids used were glycine and L-leucine, while the peptides were diglycine, triglycine, glycyl-L-leucine and L-leucyl-L-leucine. Equations for the ratios of the activity coefficients of these compounds in the salt solutions and water, respectively, were obtained in terms of the molalities of the solutes. The activity coefficient ratios for glycine are not much below one, whereas those for i.-leucine are considerably smaller reflecting the presence of the leucyl side chain. The activity coefficient ratios for the peptides are generally smaller than those for the amino acids which can be attributed to . the presence of the peptide group.

Genetic programming (GP) is one of the computer algorithms in the family of evolutionary-computational methods, which have been shown to provide reliable solutions to complex optimization problems. The genetic programming under discussion in this work relies on tree-like building blocks, and thus supports process modeling with varying structure. In this paper the systems containing amino ac...

The molar conductivity data of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium salicylate, [BMIm][Sal] as an active pharmaceutical ingredient ionic liquid (API-IL) have been determined in water and aqueous solutions of amino acids, glycine and L-alanine at T= (288.15 to 318.15) K. The molar conductivity data were analyzed by low concentration Chemical Model (lcCM) and limiting molar conductivities ( ), ion associa...

The spin-lattice relaxation times, Ti, of H20 have been measured for the aqueous solutions of 11 apolar amino acids and 5 glycine peptides as a function of the concentration at 25 °C. The coordination numbers, nh, and the rotational correlation times, Tc , of water molecules around the amino acids and peptides were estimated and compared with that of pure water, TC°. The value of rc /Tc°=1.87 f...

More than 30 years ago, Nozaki and Tanford reported that the pK values for several amino acids and simple substances in 6 M guanidinium chloride differed little from the corresponding values in low salt (Nozaki, Y., and C. Tanford. 1967. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 89:736-742). This puzzling and counter-intuitive result hinders attempts to understand and predict the proton uptake/release behavior of prot...
